The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research and provides consulting services to justice innovators.
Launching in the spring of 2018, Bronx Community Justice offers community-driven diversion opportunities for low-level crime as an alternative to criminal case processing. The program sponsored by the City Council, supported by the Bronx D.A. s Office, and staffed by the Center for Court Innovation empowers Bronx community members to create a proportionate response that holds people accountable for their actions while promoting healing and avoiding the potential harms associated with standard case processing. The diversion programming consists of restorative justice circles and workshops that bring together people charged with misdemeanor offenses and volunteers from the community to discuss the underlying circumstances that led to each participant s arrest, the impact of the incident, and how the participant can move forward with their lives and avoid future contact with the justice system. By involving community members in the local administration of justice, the program aims to give voice to community concerns, build new social connections, and restore confidence in the justice system.
Bronx Community Solutions is seeking a Restorative Circles Facilitator. Reporting to the Coordinator, the Facilitator is responsible for running the restorative interventions that bring together community members and people charged with low-level crimes. The facilitator will play a lead role in implementing the program curriculum, developing best practices, and training volunteer circle participants. The facilitator will spend the majority of their time running the restorative sessions for participants and volunteers.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor s degree and a minimum of one year of related experience. Experience and passion for group facilitation and willing to try new and different approaches to engagement and group-based work required. Excellent communication skills required. Position requires a willingness and ability to work collaboratively with a variety of different stakeholders and members of the community including judges, residents, district attorney s office, NYPD, etc. Previous knowledge of and experience with restorative justice practices strongly preferred. Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-competent manner. Bilingual (English-Spanish) required.
Position Type: Full-time
Compensation: Salary range starts at $43,000 and is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
